Google has started to offer the Google Maps design change, which it introduced at the I/O 2024 event, to a wider audience. Android users will now have a more user-friendly experience with this simplified innovation in the bottom bar of the application. This design change comes with a bottom bar reduced from five tabs to three.
Google Maps bottom bar design changes in Android version
Google Maps’ new bottom bar design offers cleaner navigation by reducing it from five tabs to three. While the “Explore” tab remains the same, the function of the “Go” tab has been combined as “Saved Trips” under “Your Lists”. The “Saved” tab has been renamed to “You” and its content has remained largely the same; only its icon has been preserved and edited. The old “Updates” tab, Notifications and Messages, has been moved to the top right corner. The search bar has also been removed in this view.
Google Maps’ new design makes app navigation simpler and more user-friendly. The five-tab design aims to provide a more comfortable experience for users. These changes are available on Android devices with version 11.138.x. If you haven’t seen this new design yet, you can try force-stopping the app.
These design changes are currently only available for Android users. There is no update for iOS users yet. Google also rolled out a page-based redesign on Android last month. These two major changes aim to improve the user experience of Google Maps.
